![]() Goose Hunts are primarily for Big Magellan and Ashy-Headed Geese, locally known as “Avutarda”, during migration to the North. In March (when snow begins to cover the fields in Patagonia) geese leave their nesting grounds and fly more than 1,000 miles looking for better pastures. Their annual migration ends in the Province of Buenos Aires, where lagoons and small ponds irrigate the grain fields. The best period for goose hunting is from April to August, when migration is coming to an end. The best time is very early in the morning, as they start flying from the roost to the feeding fields before daylight. Shooting is from blinds or individual pits using decoys. Guides, daily scout the nearby fields to choose the right area for a successful hunt. Every hunter will have a bird boy to assist him. For geese 20 gauge shotgun with No1 shot is recommended.
Duck
Hunts take place in El Lunar’s own large lagoons and
ponds, only a short walk from the main house. From mid April until the
end
of August this area of Patagonia becomes a paradise for ducks. Early
morning
shoots take place over decoys from blinds. Chest waders are best to
walk
to most of the blinds. Each hunter has a bird boy to assist him. For
