Buenos Aires to NeuquenCaviahue National Park is located in the Province of Neuquén in the Northwest area of Argentine Patagonia. The Andes Mountains lie to the west, with mountain rivers, lakes, pines and Araucaria forests. This almost virgin fishing area offers incredible flyfishing for hefty rainbow, brook and brown trout.
There is so little fishing pressure in the Caviahue waters that even the complete novice will catch fish! An average fisherman can expect to land 20 or more keepers a day.
The clear waters offer plenty of big browns, rainbows reaching 6.5 pounds or better and very nice brook trout. One of the best things this area offers is a great population of fish that is not affected by water variations so the fishing is good from Nov. 1 to May 1.
One guide for no more than two fishing guests to insure personalized service in the field. You will be guided to the best spots on the rivers and lakes depending on your individual fishing preferences.
The type of fishing techniques can vary according to weather conditions but floaters and dry flies are always a great option on the afternoon hatch as well as slow sinking lines and the use of streamers or nymphs. The type of equipment recommended are #4 and #5 weight rods but a # 3 is always a lot of fun on drys and floaters if the weather conditions are right.
Trip members will have three options on the lodging:

Option 3:
Marcel VerbekeChos Malal_Guaraco Lake Fish Camp
Rainbow trout in this area are seldom under 10 pounds...these fish are monsters and they fight hard!
The Chos Malal Lakes area
is about a 2 and a half hour drive north from the hotel. Camp accommodations will be military type field tents positioned right at the shore of these lakes and are as luxurious as a camp can be made and still be called a camp–with 220 volts generators, satellite phone, skilled chef and full cuisine service, open bar, fantastic scenery, fresh air and dynamite fishing! The chef can prepare your catch for a tasty afternoon lunch or evening dinner with a glass of local wine.
This location is a great option for the fishermen
who want to be
“where the rod-breaking action is”!
An average fisherman can land 2 or 3 of big trout in the morning and 4 or 5 more during the afternoon. Recommended equipment is #7 or #8 rods with sinking lines and large green and brown streamers. We will be using boats with the option of float tubes which are great for maneuvering closer to these monster trout and that first terrific strike! The best fishing at this location is from the middle of December until April 1.
The price per day is the same for each location and we recommended that after a few days of fast action in Caviahue and then go for the monsters at Guaraco Lake that average 10-12 pounds.

Fishing Packages include: Guide, float fishing tubes, waders, and other fishing gear, all meals, open bar, lodging as described, laundry service, ground transportation required by fishing itinerary, transfers from and to the Neuquén Airport. Not included: required fishing licenses, phone calls, gratuities, extra charges for single room accommodations. Maximum group size is 6 trip members to insure good personalized service.
