McDonald Pro Hunt
is a second-generation hunting company and is owned and operated by Sandy and Tracey McDonald. The head office is based in Polokwane, a city in the northern part of South Africa which used to be known as Pietersburg.

Sandy MacDonaldHunting has been a family business for the McDonalds for many years. Sandy's father, Alex McDonald was one of the pioneers of Professional Hunting in South Africa. He hunted Kenya, Botswana and South Africa extensively, from the mid 1950's until his retirement in the early 1980's. His wife, Helen was involved with running the public relations side of McDonald Pro Hunting until her passing in April 2008.

Sandy, having started hunting at a very young age and taught to be conservation conscious, followed in his father’s footsteps. He formed McDonald Pro-Hunting in 1991, and the company quickly grew into one of the largest and most reputable outfitter operations in South Africa. The company expanded across South Africa's borders and today also operates in Mozambique, Botswana and Tanzania.

We will assist you in making the right choice for your safari, taking into consideration your hunting experience, species list, availability and of course, budget.flyouts
Some of McDonald Pro Hunt concessions are in remote areas and you will be flown in by chartered plane. Even though you are literally in the middle of no-where you will still be able to live in civilized comfort.
Remember the old safari movies where porters carried everything from dining room tables to a giant grand piano to set up camp? Well it's almost like that, minus the grand piano of course! The camps represent what a classic hunting safari is all about, from the furnishings to running hot and cold water. Accommodation can be in luxury canvas tents or thatched roof bungalows... It's all about experiencing a uniquely African style.
All the camps and vehicles are in constant contact with the main office through an extensive radio network link and satellite telephones, so even though you might feel disconnected from the rest of the world, you're really only a phone call away. Camps are fully serviced and comfortable with competent staff to look after your every need.

Experience and personal attention with an emphasis on detail and excellent references spanning over two generations sets MacDonald Pro-Hunt apart from other outfitters. Couple that with quality trophies and a high standard in ethics and it soon becomes apparent why MacDonald Pro-Hunt.

Conservation and hunting are closely related and MacDonald Pro-Hunt advocates the intelligent utilization of wildlife and natural resources.

When you book your safari we will make sure you receive all the necessary documentation for your hunting trip, including rifle import permits for the country that you will be hunting in. If given enough time we will even arrange these permits to be issued ahead of time.

If requested, a greet service will assist you through customs on your arrival in Johannesburg. You will be met as soon as you step off the plane and guided through immigration and customs after which our agents will place you on your connecting or charter flight to your next destination.

As you touch down on the dirt strip in the middle of the African bush, your professional hunter will be there with cold refreshments to welcome you at the prelude of what will be the most memorable hunting experience you will ever have. As your guide he will be with you for the span of your safari, ensuring that you receive only the best in what we have to offer. All the professional hunters are highly experienced and undergo stringent scrutiny before they are employed, only the best make the cut.

One of the fully equipped hunting vehicles will take you to the camp where the rest of your camp staff will be eagerly awaiting your arrival. Your personal chef, waiters, chamber boys, trackers and skinners are all geared towards one thing, to make sure that your every whim and fancy are taken care of.
A classic hunting safari is only as good as the staff that make it happen, and MacDonald Pro-Hunt takes great care in ensuring that you recive the best. From a daily laundry service to three course meals served under the great African sky, it's a classic nostalgic way of life that only a fortunate few still get to experience. This is what the great hunter explorers of old fell in love with - Africa as it was meant to be experienced.

Cape Buffalo

Imagine dramatic African landscapes teaming with wildlife. Imagine the deep reverberating roar of the king of the beasts as the sun sinks into the horizon while you sip on a G&T. Imagine looking up at a star studded sky, the southern cross still twinkling as brightly as it did on explorers of centuries ago... now imagine your heart pounding away in your chest as you stalk up to a Cape Buffalo, your cross hairs focused on your target, the smell of the beast thick in your nostrils, so close you can almost reach out and touch it...

Words simply fail to capture the excitement and thrill of taking down your first Cape Buffalo. The only way to really experience it is to take the next step and actually go and do it yourself.
So what are you waiting for?
